Here are our top 8 areas to explore when checking if your vehicle is ready for an MOT. We like our customers to follow this checklist to ensure a piece of mind!
1. Headlights and indicators
Checking your lights consists of all elements from indicators, the level of light and fully functioning bulbs. Turn your vehicle on, take a stroll around. Put the hazards on, take a look at the indicators. If all seems well, then you are on the right track!
2. Brake lights
Completing this is by far easier with 2 people, one person will apply the brakes as the other checks the vehicle for the correct lights displayed. Alternatively, you are able to park close to a wall, apply the brakes and see reflections of lights. This is a solo method to help check if your brake lights are ready for an MOT Test.
3. Number plate
A clean car is well suited for an MOT, the clean visibility of all numbers, correctly displayed with the DVLA criteria for reg plates is essential.
4. Wheels and tyres
The minimum legal tyre tread depth is 1.6mm and any tyres with less than this will be classed as a fail! Our team here are able to assess your tyres, ensuring no cracks or wear and tear that will prohibit your vehicle from passing its MOT.
5. Seats and seatbelts
A seatbelt is used to save your life and offer protection, ensuing a smooth operating seatbelt in all locations is essential. A stop mechanism isn’t only a procedure to help you pass and MOT but also keep your life safe!
As silly as some may seem, filling your screenwash is a necessity to passing an MOT, failure to display working wash will be a fail.
